“No Excuses, No Explanations”
On a family vacation in West Virginia a few years back, I read one of those books, that were perfect for a trip, in that I couldn’t put it down.
Of course, it was about one of my heroes. Quiet Strength, the first book written by Nathan Whitaker and Tony Dungy, was about the former Colts’ coach’s life.
He was honest and real, and true to who I believed him to be.
He used an expression in the book, that has stuck with me.
“No excuses, no explanations.”
A great mantra to live by. If you live life without making excuses, and passing blame and take responsibility, you never have to explain yourself.
It’s spot on. I was asked in a meeting yesterday to write my eulogy (I know we’ve all done that at some point).
I wrote down that phrase, and then God gave me a little spin on it for me.
“No compromise, no compartmentalization.”
I believe that applies to my faith, roles as a man, and the list goes on. That’s a legacy to pass on, if lived out.
Live with no compromise today and in the days to come, and make no excuses, the fruits of that labor will come.
