“It’s all about THE U”
I have thoroughly enjoyed ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary series looking at some of the best stories in sport over the last 30 years, the time of the world wide leader’s existence.
This past Saturday, ESPN premiered “The U” about the rise and 1st-generation dynasty in college football of Miami (Fla.).
Those were some bad dudes. On and off the field. They had a swagger. They bled emotion. They worked each other up and opponents.
I was amazed at how they came out of nowhere. We often forget that not everyone is at the level we currently know them to be.
The New England Patriots haven’t always been great. The Boston Celtics have gone through some trials and valleys. Alabama, USC have seen tough times.
Miami was terrible prior to the 80s.
It was fascinating to see how Miami as a city struggled during the early 80s and the “U” did too. Each kind of brought out the strengths and visibilities of the other. “Miami Vice” with its own personality and glitz moved forward much like South Beach/Coral Gables and the university.
They were the talk and their bite was potent.
Made me think of us prior to coming to Christ. A cellar dweller can become top of the heep.
Me with nothing to offer Christ, can become everything. He gives me a confidence (maybe even a swagger) that says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Over two decades, Miami won three national championships and saw eight title games.
“The U” ultimately came back down and fell back to the pack. Fortunately with us, as we allow Christ to live through us, we can keep reigning with Him. Never to decline. His grace is sufficient.
