Childlike Words To Live By

October 27th, 2009 by Jeff

One of my favorite words, that is the number one trait I look for in potential employees – “teachable.”

Two of my favorite words to hear together, I get every time I enter Chick-Fil-A.

“My pleasure.”

Three words, Arthur Fonzarella could never say on Happy Days were “I was wrong.”

I pray constantly for my children, that they would have teachable hearts and spirits, and in that come to know Christ in a real way at a young age.

Kara does a great job of trying to make that application easy and practical.

Two things she has been working with them on are specific things to say as a given response.

When apologizing, not “I’m sorry,” but “I was wrong.”

The latter carries more of a punch and is much more of a lowering one self.

Likewise, “thanks” can get the job done, but how about “my pleasure.” Just a great ring to it.  Music to the ears – I truly believe that.

If we can get our kids to admit shortcomings, and even use the term “wrong” we’ll have strong kids, and no Potsies, thats’ for sure.

In both the positive and negative in those expressions, it’s about taking ownership and responsibility.

“My pleasure” has a joy mixed with service – double wham!

Words are powerful.  Both to the speaker and the hearer.

These may seem like little things, but I believe they can go a long way.

What are some little extras you can offer up as words that go the extra mile?
