Magical Timing…
Ecclesiastes 3: 17 – I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time [appointed] for every matter and purpose and for every work.
I just finished a book celebrating the 30th anniversary of Larry Bird and Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s Indiana State-Michigan State national championship game.
I was so amazed at the timing of events that elevated college basketball based on the 1979 title game.
The Big East Conference launched the next season. ESPN (a small cable sports network — imagine that) commenced that fall. The NBA was struggling and in need of some star power.
The game wasn’t an instant classic, but as it has marinated it grows bigger by the year. Magic-Bird and their Lakers-Celtics pedigree only elevated the game as time went by.
As amazing as 1979 was for college basketball, it doesn’t hold a candle to God’s timing.
He’s bigger than the economy, He’s never caught off guard and He’s never too fast or too slow.
That applies to your life, your family, your church, your country, we just need to cling to Him.
A friend of mine often prays to the effect of “God’s timing is perfect, His will is perfect, and He doesn’t make mistakes.”
In case you forgot who won the 1979 championship, it was Johnson’s Spartans.
Their timing may have been good, but not nearly as magical as King Jesus’. Any time … and every time.
(Ed. Note: Monday night, MSU has a chance to win this thing again, on 30th anniversary … talk about timing)
Very good!
